How Steam Mopping and Traditional Mopping Compare
If you're on social media, it may seem like every other week, you see someone flaunting a new kind of mop that promises to give your floors the best clean of their life.
One kind of mop that's become increasingly popular in recent years is a steam mop.
As the name suggests, these use a stream of steam to blast your floors and remove dirt, buildup, and other spills.
The heat from a steam mop can help remove dried-on stains and other hard-to-clean spots. Plus, you don't need any harsh chemicals, as the heat does an excellent job of sanitizing.
Steam mopping is also great because it doesn't leave large water streaks behind, unlike many traditional mops.
However, one caveat is that steam mops don't have the same general absorbency as a traditional mop, so cleaning up large spills can be a bit trickier.
Additionally, the moisture and heat from steam mops can damage wood, so they may not be the best option if you have that kind of flooring.
Steam mops are also more of a financial investment, but they're a worthwhile one for some people.
On the whole, steam mops can be a great way to give your floors a deep clean — but they are pricier and may not be suitable for wood floors. It all comes down to your personal preference!
Try the "5 Things" Method To Tidy Your Home
Feeling like you need to organize and tidy up but not having the time to do it can feel draining, to say the least.
However, we sometimes forget that it's not all-or-nothing. We can do a little at a time.
One organizing method — known as the "5 Things" method — is a great way to break down tidying up into a more manageable system.
In this system, you use 5 different categories to tidy up:
Trash: Pick up all the miscellaneous trash you can find, and put it in a bag to toss.
Dishes: Put dirty dishes in the sink (or if they're already in the sink, load what you can in the dishwasher).
Laundry: Put dirty clothes in the hamper or directly toss them in the washer.
Things that have a home: Put scattered miscellaneous items you know have a home into a pile.
Things that need a home: Make another pile of things that need a home.
This method doesn't ask you to do it all — it's meant to help you feel a little more organized and start feeling motivated, making the individual tasks more manageable.
If, as you start making a pile of items with a home, you want to put them all in their designated spots, give yourself permission to do that!
This is all about making things easier and doing what works for you.

How Often Do You Need To Wash Your Bath Mat?
While our clothes, towels, and sheets may be a part of our regular laundry routines, some other items may get neglected — like bath mats.
How often do you really need to wash them?
Generally speaking, experts say you should wash your bath mat once a week. It may be easiest to wash it when you do a weekly bathroom scrub-down.
Because you step on it and it gets wet when you're fresh out of the shower, it's important to ensure it can dry between uses.
Depending on the material, this may mean you need to hang it over the side of the tub or prop it up so it can dry between uses.
If it's a cloth material, you can likely toss it in the washer and let it air dry afterward. Some more durable materials you might even be able to toss in the dryer!
If you don't regularly wash your bath mat — and ensure it can dry between uses — you risk bacteria, viruses, mold, and mildew building up. You don't want to step on that when you get out of the shower!
If it's easier, you can also have a couple of bath mat options on hand to cycle through.
These steps help ensure you keep your bathroom a clean and tidy space!
