Tuesday 10/01: Sponsored by BetterHelp - manifesting, quiet mental noise, crave chaos

Tuesday

"I have the power to create a life I love.”

Welcome to Tuesday! Today, we’re discussing:

True or False?

Once a person develops a mental health condition, they can never fully recover.

Scroll for the answer!

What is Manifesting?

What if you could create the life of your dreams simply by the power of thought?

While this may sound too good to be true, this is the basic idea of manifesting.

As shared by Psychology Today: “Manifesting is the idea that, through the power of belief, we can effectively ‘think’ a goal into becoming reality.”

People with varying levels of spirituality may place more weight on the concept of manifesting than others. Or, when looking through the lens of manifesting, some people may place greater emphasis on external factors driving the things that happen to them than their own actions.

Some forms of manifesting may align with strict “rules,” while others simply encourage you to “act as if” the things you desire are already yours.

However, at its core, manifesting is when a person gets into the mindset and emotions of a specific lifestyle or a goal they want to achieve and believes that it will happen.

When manifesting, it’s important not to delve into toxic positivity. Acknowledge your feelings, the situation, and what you can and can’t control. This can help you remain grounded.

Regardless of the degree to which a person aligns with the concept of creating our dream lives through thought, keeping our goals in mind and letting ourselves feel the energy and emotions as if we’ve achieved them is a great way to remain focused. Keeping our goals in mind and staying excited about them can spark actions to help us get there!

How to Quiet Mental Noise

Research shows we have an average of 60,000 thoughts a day. With so many thoughts, it’s no surprise that we may occasionally become overwhelmed with that mental noise.

Luckily, there are some simple ways we can quiet some of those thoughts that are a little less than helpful.

  • Take a step back: Ask yourself how someone else would handle a problem you’re worried about. This can help you remove some of the brain fog and see things a little more clearly.

  • Practice mindfulness: While our brains can seem to be part of the problem when it comes to mental noise, they can also create powerful solutions. Shift your focus to the present. Meditate, journal, or simply focus on the sights, sounds, and noises around you.

  • Get in nature: Nature is a powerful tool that can transform the way we feel. It’s quite literally healing for our physical and mental selves. Go on a walk, sit outside, or simply open a window and reflect on how it feels to connect with the outdoors.

  • Challenge unhelpful thoughts and try to shift perspective: If you notice an unhelpful thought, consider where it’s coming from and try to shift it to be more neutral or positive.

Having lots of repetitive or unhelpful thoughts can be overwhelming, but using helpful techniques can make a positive impact!

Why We May “Crave Chaos,” Especially in Times of Instability

Have you ever noticed that after the craziness in life calms down and you finally feel a sense of calm, you have an urge to seek out something “chaotic?”

Experts go back and forth on whether someone can truly be “addicted to chaos.”

However, some say that craving chaos stems from the idea that when we struggle through various challenges, they may give us a sense that we are fighting for something. It may give people a sense of fulfillment and control — as backward as that may seem.

As people get that sense of satisfaction from moving through chaos, they may begin to seek it out.

Seeking chaos, however, can be harmful for ourselves and those around us — not to mention that it can make our lives more challenging.

To halt a pursuit for chaos, experts recommend diving into where that drive for it stems from and pressing pause or trying to step away from things that trigger that feeling.

Remind yourself that it’s healthy and okay for things to feel calm. Try to find something healthy to keep your mind occupied and get excited about. Maybe it’s a new hobby, an exciting show to watch, or something else!

If you are struggling, remember that there is no shame in seeking help from an expert, and they can help you navigate through complex emotions.
