Did You Know?

How many pieces of clothing do we buy each year?

Scroll for the answer!

Trends are an exciting way to explore different fashion garments, textures, and fabrics. However, it can be difficult to keep up with as trends are increasingly coming and going in shorter periods of time.

Finding items you can experiment with trends — but wear for years to come — helps you ensure you’re making mindful purchases for your personal style, finances, and the planet!

First, identify what you like about the trend. Is it a color, a pattern, or a silhouette? Spend some time thinking about what draws you in.

Then, think about how you can realistically incorporate it into what you already have and what fits you. If leopard print is definitely not your thing, you likely won’t reach for it — even if everyone else is! However, maybe you’re drawn to the fact that it’s a neutral print. This would help you find a pattern that’s a better fit for your personal style.

Finally, ask if you’ll wear it even if others stop. If an item only feels suitable to wear for a short period that others do, it may not be the best fit — and there’s probably something else that would align better with your tastes.

How to Organize Your Closet to Make Getting Dressed Easier

A cluttered, disorganized closet can make finding an outfit a chore. However, a tidy one can make all the difference in getting dressed.

Here are a few ways to organize your closet to make getting dressed a little easier:

  1. Clear out the things that are simply cluttering your space: If you haven’t worn an item and don’t think you will, it may be time to find a new home for it.

  2. Put the things you wear most in easy-to-reach spots: This will save you time from hunting around for specific items.

  3. Make sure everything has a home: This way, you’re not randomly shoving things in different places that you might not remember when it’s time to get dressed.

  4. Add storage solutions that simplify, not complicate, your life: Get the essentials that make it easy to find what you need, but don’t go overboard with boxes and bins that make it harder to remember where you put everything.

  5. Focus on building your wardrobe with things you love: This will mean you have items that you want to reach for consistently and will be excited about.

How to Get To Disney World for Almost Free

We've put together a blueprint for four to go to Disney World for next to nothing by using credit card rewards points. This trip includes airfare, 5 nights at a hotel with transportation to Disney, and 4 days in the parks. That's a value of $4,000-$5,000! Better yet, this should take less time to put together than the average Disney-bound family would take to save for their trip.

How Outfit Formulas Can Make Creating and Exploring Your Style a Breeze

After your closet is organized and you know where everything is, there’s another simple way you can begin to explore your style: outfit formulas.

As the name suggests, you would add together different variables, or clothing items, to create an outfit.

It can be helpful to think of a formula that equals “4.”

You can think of items that cover half of your body or less as a “1” and a dress, jumpsuit, or romper that covers a larger portion as a “2.”

Some example outfit formulas include:

  • Jeans or trousers (1) + a shirt or blouse (1) + a blazer, sweater, or cardigan (1) + a pair of shoes (1) = 4 (an outfit!)

  • A dress or jumpsuit (2) + a belt (1) + shoes (1) = 4 (an outfit!)

  • A skirt (1) + a sweater (1) + a button-down layered underneath (1) + loafers (1) = 4 (an outfit!)

There is no hard and fast rule that your outfit would need to equal 4 — but it can be a fun way to explore your personal style! And, it can make putting outfits together easier.
