Study: How Mindfulness Can Decrease Depression by Nearly 20%

Mindfulness is an incredible way to be present in the moment and learn to sit with our thoughts. Plus, it has powerful positive impacts on our mental health!

A study published in the British Journal of Health Psychology had participants do mindfulness training for just 10 minutes a day.

The results were found — those who participated in the mindfulness practice for 30 days decreased depression by nearly 19%. Anxiety rates dropped 12%, and overall attitudes to health and behavioral intentions to look after health were boosted roughly 7%!

This shows that self-care doesn’t have to be a big time commitment — even small, intentional practices can go a long way!

How Our Pets Can Help Us Heal

Our pets provide companionship, are fun to play with, and become members of our family.

But there are even more benefits of being a pet parent than we may realize. One major unrecognized perk of having a pet is that they can help us heal.

For example, interacting with animals can lower cortisol (stress hormone) levels. They can also help ease feelings of isolation and loneliness.

Our furry friends can also increase social support and encourage us to form new interactions.

These are just a few of the many positive impacts our pets can have on our mental health and well-being. Whether it’s through hanging out together or motivating us to spend time out in the world, our pets can truly help us heal!

Discover Zen Meditation

Meditation is a great way to practice mindfulness — and it has incredible benefits, like lowering stress and promoting overall well-being. One form of meditation we’ve loved learning about is Zen meditation.

This ancient Buddhist tradition has roots dating back to the 7th century in the Tang Dynasty.

Zen meditation is different from other forms of meditation, as you practice observing and letting go of your thoughts.

To practice Zen meditation:

  • Get in a comfortable position.

  • Keep your eyes semi-open.

  • Start by observing your breathing. Don’t try to stay focused on it — just be aware.

  • As you continue, observe the thoughts that appear. Don’t judge them — just practice noticing them and letting them go.

Zen meditation is said to increase a person’s ability to stay focused, showing the transformative power of this practice!
